Free 8th Grade Math Tutoring Online

Free 8th Grade Math Tutoring OnlineThe traditional way of getting help with math is usually through local school districts and local public schools, but if you don't want to waste your time and money go that route, free 8th grade math tutoring online may be just what you are looking for. Although most of the schools are not offering this service, some private tutors are. Many people would rather have their math issues handled in-house than have the issues taken care of by someone else who does not work in the area where they live. It can be much cheaper to have someone who knows how to do math take care of your homework than it is to pay someone to do it for you. Plus, it is much easier to get help from a student than it is to get help from a tutor. For most students who are at least a bit advanced in their math learning, getting tutoring from a private student will probably be more affordable and convenient than going to school for at least a couple of hours per day. In addition, you won't have to attend classes or lessons when you are doing your homework. In addition, if you like to spend some time doing online homework help, this may be a great opportunity for you to do it on your own time when you don't have much to do during the day. There are several reasons why an online school may be better than one where you have to go to class every day. Most of these schools offer tutoring when it is convenient for their students. Most of them have at least one regular class every day, so if you can take a few hours a day to help your students, that may be a much better option for you than going to class every day and hoping you get any work done. Most of the schools offering free math tutoring online will be able to provide all the material that the students need for the required course. Some of the schools will require you to bring your own materials so that you can take advantage of all the online tutoring that they offer. Still, most of the schools will give you acce ss to all the material that you need to take your math courses.Although the majority of the students who have taken online math tutoring will have better grades than those who have not, if you don't like taking math at school, this may be the perfect alternative for you. You can choose what works best for you and not worry about a lot of other aspects of the math curriculum at your local school. When you have to get your math done at school, you have to be present for all the classes and find time for yourself if you don't want to miss any of them. You may want to consider taking online math classes as your way to help take care of some of your problems when it comes to your math. If you like to work in groups, taking a few hours out of your day to help students work on their work might be the right option for you. Besides, it is much easier to take math in the comfort of your own home and not have to worry about meeting a teacher when you need to go to the library to do a certain ma th problem.

What is it Like to Attend University of Florida

What is it Like to Attend University of Florida The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Emily is a New York City tutor specializing in Algebra tutoring, Statistics tutoring, Essay Editing tutoring, and more. She graduated from University of Florida in 2012 with Bachelors degrees in Marketing and Psychology. See what she had to say about her alma mater: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Emily: Gainesville is a college town with the campus in a central location and transportation options that make it very easy to get around campus and around Gainesville. Campus is very safe with a strong presence from the university police department and services such as SNAP, which provides free rides anywhere on campus at night. The areas of Gainesville where students live and hang out are also safe. The RTS bus system has city and campus bus routes that make it easy to get from class to class or travel around the city. When I was an undergraduate, I did not have a car and I was able to get where I needed to go by bus, bike, or sharing rides with my friends. Campus is very bike-friendly with lots of bike racks and bike lanes. When you first arrive on campus, it may seem very big but you will soon discover that most of the major buildings are within walking distance. VT:How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Emily: Professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants are all very available and willing to help students. All professors are required to hold weekly office hours. Large classes will have several teaching assistants that are easily available to answer questions about course material. Some academic advisers require appointments, or there may be long wait times, especially at the beginning of the semester and during registration. When you visit an academic advisor it is best to come prepared with a list of specific questions so that you are able to get the most out of your session. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Emily: There are many different types of dorms are UF. It can be hard to get into the dorm that you want your freshman year but dont worry if you dont get into your first choice. There are several types of dorms: traditional style, suite style, and apartment style. Many freshmen end up in traditional style dorms and these tend to be the most social dorms because of all the common areas. There are two dining halls on campus and most of the dorms are a quick walk to one of the dining halls. There are also several dining options such as the Reitz Union and the Hub. All of the dorms are close to bus routes so it is very easy to get to class by bus or by walking. There are many socialization opportunities with other students and it is easy to get involved. At the beginning of every semester, there is a student involvement fair where all of the student organizations help students get involved. Greek life is pretty popular; about 25% of the students are in a fraternity or sorority. Rush is at the beginning of every semester so it is easy to rush and see whether or not joining a Greek organization is right for you. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Emily: There are over 100 majors and minors at UF and the advisors and professors provide a lot of guidance in finding the right major for you. I dual majored in Marketing and Psychology. The College of Business and The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences were great with supporting my majors and providing opportunities for students. The College of Business always had information about internships and job opportunities and was very invested in the success of the graduates. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provided many research opportunities for students as well as information about graduate programs. With so many students on campus, each college is very well developed to support the students and help them succeed. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Emily: Coming to a school with 35,000 undergraduates can be overwhelming for some students, but the school makes it easy to meet people and make friends. Many freshmen live in the dorms and each floor has a resident assistant that puts on programs and helps create a community in the dorms. Strong friendships are easy to make in the dorms because there are so many opportunities to meet other people. Greek life is definitely noticeable but you do not have to be in a fraternity or sorority to meet people. Additionally, each fraternity and sorority is different so even if one does not sound appealing, there may be a different one that you really like. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Emily: The Career Resource Center is consistently ranked as one of the best in the nation. The CRC will provide help as early as your freshman year with finding internships, applying to graduate school, and getting jobs. There is a career showcase during the fall and spring semesters that brings out many reputable companies. UF has a very strong reputation so employers are always on campus recruiting students. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Emily: There are many areas to study on campus. The main library is Library West, which can be crowded and is sometimes known as the social library. There are many libraries on campus that have plenty of space to study individually or in groups. The Reitz Union has many meeting rooms and places to study. In almost every building, there are quiet places to hang out between classes in order to get work done. Groups of dorms are called areas and every area has study rooms and libraries. These areas have equipment such a projectors and white boards that make it easy to study in groups. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Emily: One of the best things about Gainesville is the community of Gators. Gainesville revolves around Gator sports teams but if sports are not your thing, there is still a lot to do. Downtown Gainesville has a number of restaurants, a weekly Farmers Market, and a theater that puts on many great plays throughout the year. There are also lots of outdoor activities such as going hiking in Paynes Prairie or taking a trip to Lake Wauberg. Most students live off campus after their freshman year and the areas surrounding student apartments provide lots of relief from campus life. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Emily: There are 35,000 undergraduates at UF. While this huge number may seem daunting, there are many ways to make the university seem smaller. All students must fulfill general education requirements and these classes tend to be pretty big; sometimes there are 600 people in one class. As you get to taking classes for your major, the classes become smaller. Do not let the large classes deter you from UF. Professors will go out of their way to get to know students and there are teaching assistants that help you understand the course material. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Emily: One of the great things about UF is that you are surrounded by smart students and you learn as much from other students as you do from your professors. One of the toughest classes that I took was Marketing Management. The professor was very well known, and for many of the students in the class, this was the major class we needed before looking for jobs. Every week, we had to do presentations and critique each other. While this was challenging, it was also a great learning experience because we got to use our peers knowledge to improve our skills. This was probably one of the most useful classes that I took because the professor knew what skills we would need for our future jobs and he pushed us every class to become better. Public Speaking Anxiety - Private Tutoring

Public Speaking Anxiety BobbiM Apr 3, 2014 Do you freak out when you have to speak in front of people? Public speaking causes people to react in strange ways. They may find that their hands get sweaty, that their mouth is dry, or that they forgot what they were going to say. In fact, research has found that some people fear public speaking more than death. In college, there will be many times when you are equites to speak in public, whether it is making a comment in a large lecture class or giving a presentation or speech to a class. Coping with Public Speaking Anxiety: the best way to cope with a fear of public speaking is to be prepared. Practice your presentation out loud several times before presenting it to your class. Practice in front of a mirror, or better yet, recruit some friends to listen to your speech. Have them record your time to be sure that you are on track an ask them to critique your speaking style using the following questions: -Are you speaking too fast? Sometimes when people are nervous they talk very fast, which makes it difficult for the audience to follow. Dont rush through your talk. Instead, try to use a conversational tone. -Are you using good inflection? When people are nervous they sometimes speak in a monotone, which is difficult to listen to for an extended period of time. Try to speak confidently and with enthusiasm. -Are you jittery? You may find yourself moving from side to side or wringing you hands when you are nervous. It is good to move around a little, such as using hand gestures or walking around to include the audience, but too much nervous movement can be distracting to your audience. -Are you making eye contact? When you are giving your presentation it may help to focus on one or two friendly faces in the room and present to them. You should be sure to make eye contact with the other people in the room, of course. But concentrate mostly on those two people. This strategy should help calm your fear of speaking in front of a large group. -Have you jotted down some notes? Making some notes to follow during your presentation makes you feel more secure and confident. Even though you have rehearsed your talk and have a good idea of what you will cover, you should have notes of your presentation with you just in case you need a reminder of what you are going to say. Want to Be the Best Babysitter Ever Get Certified!

Want to Be the Best Babysitter Ever Get Certified! Photo courtesy of pixabay.com 1.  CPR: As an active babysitter myself, this is the most popular request I have received. The Red Cross offers courses, and there are many other online options as well. This certification does cost a bit of money, but if you have already signed up to babysit for someone, you may consider asking them to use part of your pay to pay for the course. It is very quick and easy, but it will help you gain trust in any family you babysit. 2.  First Aid:  Chances are that if you are CPR certified, you are also first aid certified. But if you choose to opt out of the CPR, the first aid certification is a good starting position that will still get you in many doors. This course will teach you the basic facts of caring for a child, such as how to treat simple cuts, how to perform the Heimlich maneuver, and how to stabilize a child until further help arrives. 3.  General Babysitter Certification:  Check out if there are any 4-H Clubs near you that offer babysitter certification services. These courses provide useful tips as to how to entertain children, what to do when children act up, and what to do in emergency situations. You can also receive your first-aid certification through the program. The clubs will often come to schools to conduct the certification, which will be one day a week for a month, but there are other options as well. If there is no 4-H near you, check for a Safe Sitter course. It offers many of the same things as 4-H. You can also find a similar course at your local YMCA. The top three certifications are the most important to have, as they directly relate to the safety of the children. There are, however, other steps you can take to further set yourself apart from other applicants and increase your credibility. Photo courtesy of pixabay.com 4.  Drivers License:  You will find that many parents want to hire someone that will be able to pick up/drop off their children at school or extracurricular activities. So, having your license (and access to a car) can prove a valuable asset. 5.  Lifeguard:  Especially for the summer, this certification is very valuable. Many families may have access to a pool club or public pool, and they will want someone who they can trust to swim with their children and help as needed. Of course, all of these places have lifeguards, but extra reassurance is never a problem. Furthermore, if these families have pools in the backyard, you will act as the one and only lifeguard. 6.  Pet Care:  Pets are common in family households, so parents like you to be comfortable around them. Whats even better, however, is if you can take care of the pets. Its actually possible to become certified in pet sitting. If you own a pet yourself, that may be enough, but it can never hurt to be over prepared. 7.  Nutrition:  Consider taking some nutrition classes or a Cooking 101 session. These will give you more credibility when a parent wants someone that can prepare meals for their children. If your school does not offer a class, or if it cant fit in your schedule, keep an eye out for events going on locally. There are many opportunities you may not realize were ever out there. 8.  Tutoring:  Being a certified tutor can also play to your advantage. It shows that you are able to work well with children in addition to being an academically strong candidate. While not all of these certifications are necessary, nor does having them necessarily mean that you will get the job, they will certainly provide an advantage over a disadvantage. Most parents are willing to give you a chance if you show that you are responsible. Think back to your favorite babysitters and what you liked about them, and aspire to be like them. At the same time, do not forget that babysitting is not always fun and games. You should be prepared for anything and know how to respond. With everyone wanting a babysitting job these days, consider going the extra mile with these certifications to seal the deal.

Reasons To Consider Refinancing Your Student Loans

Reasons To Consider Refinancing Your Student Loans Image via blog.denverpost.com The first thing to consider when refinancing your student loan is how much interest am I paying? If your interest rates are higher than 6.5 percent, then it would be smart to look into it. You have the potential to cut those rates in half. According to the washingtonpost.com, who interviewed a couple in debt for $300,000, “The Salvias refinanced their student loans this year through Citizens Bank, slashing their interest rates from about 6.75 percent to 2.35 percent, putting their student loan rate lower than their mortgage rate of 3.25 percent. Their monthly payments dropped by $700. The savings, the couple says, will go toward day care. However, new student loans are not just handed out another reason you have to consider. Secondly, a little thing called credit comes into play. Lenders are more likely to offer you a loan if they see you have a good credit score, a number between 690 and 850. As college students, it is expected that you have a not-so-great credit score. In this situation, a co-signer comes into play. This co-signer can be a parent or another adult who will take responsibility for the loan. According to usatoday.com, “Some lenders, including SoFi and Earnest, have been backing away from credit scores as a basis for evaluating potential customers. Your monthly cash flow, education and employment history are more telling, they say.” Having a stable income compared to your debt is also attractive to lenders. Naturally, if your income is significantly lower than your current debit, it is highly unlikely you will be able to refinance your loan. According to usatoday.com, “Lower your debt by throwing extra funds at your credit card balance, student loans and car loans. Credit card debt in particular can be a red flag for lenders, Passione says. But once it’s gone, you’ll likely have a better chance at a favorable interest rate when you refinance.” Passione, as mentioned above, is CEO and founder of LendKey, which is a refinancing lender. Image via startribune.com In addition to interest rate, credit score, and income, consider your ability to make monthly payments. Not only can your interest rate decrease, but so can the monthly repayment amount. Time period options vary from 5, 10, to 15 years, and so on. For example, changing a 10-year loan to a 20-year loan will drop your payments considerably. Studentloanhero.com suggests: “although your monthly payments will drop, be careful as you might accrue more interest and end up paying more over the long haul.” Furthermore, consider looking for a more flexible repayment plan. Chances are there is one out there that suits your situation better. Compared to a federal loan, private banks offer limited programs. A federal loan, according to studentloanhero.com, offers “great benefits such as Pay As You Earn, Income Based Repayment, and Income Contingent Repayment” Refinancing your student loan might also let you release your previous co-signer. Why is this something to think about though? Chances are that co-signer is one of your parents, and the money-stress between you two has been taking a toll on the family dynamic. On the plus side, without your loan bringing down their credit score, your parents can then invest in a big purchase like a new car or a beach house. And that can benefit you too. Switching to a new bank can also be a reason why you are considering a new student loan. Some banks just do not offer the service some people would like, and there is no problem for changing banks because of this. According to studentloanhero.com, “Refinancing your student loans gives you the opportunity to switch to a new bank that has a great customer service record and better track record working with student loan borrowers. So there you have it. Refinancing a student loan can really ease up the stress in your life after college. Whether the reason is interest rates or monthly payments, there are many reasons why you should consider refinancing your student loan.

Why do I need a tutor and Other Common Questions for First Time Tutoring

“Why do I need a tutor” and Other Common Questions for First Time Tutoring Students or parents of students getting a tutor for the first time can have a lot of questions starting out, and often have a lot of misinformation. I thought I would write a quick blog post to clear up these questions, and give the parents some information when discussing getting a tutor with their student. “Why do I need a tutor?”Many students who are getting tutoring for the first time can feel discouraged and unsupported, but it is important to understand that getting tutoring is a privilege, and it can make a real difference. The most common reasons a parent might search for a tutor might be:? Lacking understanding. Everyone needs help once and a while, and not everyone can be good at every subject. Sometimes a student will reach a unit in a class, and they are just at a loss and don’t understand it. It is better to get help when you need it, than to continue being confused in the class.? Grades are slipping. Sometimes we get overwhelmed with all of our obligations outside of classes. Perhaps you play a sport and have practice every day, or you do volunteer work, or have a part-time job. It can be hard to manage keeping your grades up with all of these other responsibilities.? Lacking confidence. For some reason, you are doing fairly well in a course, but you just aren’t showing confidence your work. Perhaps you are unsure of each question you answer, and feel you are more guessing than answering. If this is the case, it’s a good idea to get a tutor to evaluate what you do know and reassure you that you are understanding the material correctly.? Lacking motivation. Perhaps you haven’t been turning in homework assignments, or you just aren’t paying much attention to your schoolwork in general. Not wanting to fill out workbooks or packets is understandable. They can be boring and annoying working through them on your own, but a tutor might be able to make the topic more interesting for you and help you find ways to remember interesting facts. If you find a tutor who is excited about the subject, often they can make the experience pretty enjoyable.? Learning disability.Traditional teaching methods don’t always work for those with learning disabilities, which means traditional lectures won’t teach you much. A one-on-one session with a tutor can give you a more personalized learning experience, where they play to your strengths so you can learn by the best methods possible. “What type of students get Tutors?” Debunking the mythsThis is a question I come across quite frequently, especially with students getting a tutor for the first time. For some reason, many young students have it in their head that if they are getting a tutor it must mean they are ‘stupid’. I have heard the sentence “Only dumb kids get tutoring” much too many times, and it is something that makes me sad to hear. The truth is, the majority of students who get tutors tend to have a few key qualities:? They are generally very good students. They make above-average grades, and are very smart. They complete most of their homework assignments, and tend to put a good amount of effort into their classes. Even more so, these students tend to care about what grades they make, and tend to work harder when they don’t feel they are doing well.? They have parents and/or instructors who are very involved and invested in their education. The parents who put an emphasis on their students’ education are more likely to get their students a tutor. Similarly a teacher who is engaged with their classes will notice when a student is struggling. They are familiar with the student’s work? They are college-bound. Most students who end up getting tutoring are planning on furthering their education after high school. I can say that 95% of my clients are already planning on college, and it is listed on one of their main reasons for getting a tutor. “Why do most students get tutoring?”1. Their grades are dropping. Whether it be missing school due to illness, extracurriculars taking away focus from a class, or if a subject is just particularly difficult, the student’s grade is showing an unusual trend. Perhaps they just “bombed” a test when they felt they had done well.2. They don’t feel as confident as they want to in the material. For certain students, there is a disconnect for them with a certain subject. Perhaps they excel in History and English, but they can’t grasp concepts as easily in Algebra class. Getting a tutor can often help close this gap in understanding, and give the student tools to use in later courses.3. Test Anxiety - They get overwhelmed with tests. Reviewing for any class is not easy for everyone. Study skills come to everyone differently, and they are a learned skill. For some with test anxiety, it is much more difficult to decide how and what to study when it comes to tests. Students today have more pressure on them to perform than ever before, and this is usually more of a hindrance than an advantage. Not every student can perform well under pressure, and with so many teachers having strict retesting policies, it is no wonder this pressure can get to a student’s head.4. They are trying to get into college. Many students will realized they want to go to a certain school in their junior or senior year, and will want to bring their grades up in order to have better chances of acceptance.5. They are about to leave for college. Colleges expect a certain standard for their students, even after they have been accepted to the university. Most colleges’ acceptance letters have a clause requiring students to keep up their grades through graduation, so a student can't let their grades fall at the last minute and put scholarships in jeopardy.6. They have just started college. Moving away from one’s family and having all these responsibilities can be overwhelming for some students. They have to find a balance between a social life and school, and for the first time they make all the decisions regarding how they spend their time. As well, college is very different from high school, and some students need to learn how to study all over again, because their old habits are no longer working for them. A big life change like going to college is a lot to get used to, and getting tutoring can help lessen the load and reduce stress.7. Standardized testing. ACT and SAT scores are a huge factors when applying to your dream school. The tests are not designed to see how much you know, but how well you can test. Therefore, the most important thing is learning strategies on how to approach these tests from people who have a lot of experience with them.8. The dreaded Finals. Whoever decided there should be huge comprehensive exams in the same week clearly doesn’t stress easily. Meanwhile, many student can get overwhelmed when it comes time for finals. Not only do you have four or five tests in one week, but you also are required to remember all the material that you have covered for the entire year! Many students get tutors to help them review the older material they might be rusty on, and get help completing their review packets. In this way, they can get any questions they have answered and be able to study with ease. ”How do I know which tutor is right for my student?”The truth is, you will never know if a tutor is the right fit until you hire them and try them out, but I have a few tips for narrowing down the list:1. A tutor who is knowledgeable/experienced in teaching the subject. Some subjects are harder to teach than others, and just because they understand it well doesn’t mean they can teach it well. If they have experience tutoring the subject before, then they will have a better understanding of what tools they can teach your student to give the best help possible. 2. A tutor who is friendly. It seems like a silly thing to say, but someone who makes your student feel comfortable, and who they can feel safe asking questions to, will make a huge difference in not only how well, but also how quickly they improve. 3. A tutor who is highly-recommended. A tutor with the best grades is not always the best choice. In fact, many tutors are better at it for having struggled at some time in school. For this reason, worrying about which tutor is the best Math student is not the best way to go, but the one who really gets the material across to the student is the path you should choose. So for any parents out there who are struggling with deciding to get your student a tutor, go for it! If your student feels discouraged because they feel it means they are stupid, explain to them that only the best students get tutors when they are struggling. Students getting a tutor for the first time may feel self-conscious about it.This is one reason, among many other reasons which I have discussed in other blogs, that I use a positive tutoring approach with my students. Students should be taught to focus on what they do understand rather than what they don’t. This is also the psychological reasoning behind “partial-credit” testsâ€"you are given credit for using the knowledge you do have instead of being penalized for not knowing everything. It takes a lot of courage for a student to admit they may need help, so you should explain to him or her that you are proud of them for taking that step. They may be nervous for their first session, not knowing what to expect, but great tutors will really make them feel comfortable and enthusiastic about the process. It doesn't take long for students to relax and really appreciate the extra help a tutor can provide.
